Natalie is a qualified actuary with extensive experience in both primary insurance and reinsurance business; as well as life and Non-Life. Natalie started her career in the corporate actuarial department of Munich Re and spent a number of years developing her technical skill and understanding the financial drivers of the business. She then moved to Discovery Insure where she was involved in various areas including as Executive Associate, and Head of Corporate Actuarial and Reinsurance.
In 2017 Natalie returned to Munich Re in the capacity of Head of Innovation, Non-Life.

Tapping expertise using technology

Adi Kaimowitz is the CEO and co-founder of Virtual Actuary. Together with his wife Aliya and a group of experienced actuaries he formed the first virtual actuarial consulting business servicing insurers, reinsurers, banks and financial institutions. Adi comes with 10 years in the actuarial industry having previously worked as a recruiter for actuaries. His experience spans marketing, IT and operations and together with his team have taken on more than 40 clients in their first year. In January 2019 Adi opened the US subsidiary and formed a Software as a Service JV with US based Insurtech Global, an award winning Insurtech actuarial modeling sofware developer. Adi developed the Virtual Actuary business model which is an organised collaborative of actuaries and the business has been refered to as “the Uber of Actuaries”. Virtual Actuary has partnered with a leading Virtual Reality hardware manufacturer in the US and is currently developing the Virtual Reality platform which will take the business and the actuarial industry into a global virtual consulting era.

What about antiselection?

Brad is an actuary with Business Science Honours degrees cum laude in Actuarial Science, Statistics and Computer Science, and a Business Science Masters degree in the applications of machine learning techniques to risk management.

His early career focused on the life insurance industry where he was involved in building and deploying web-based ERP systems for insurance companies in Africa. Subsequently he founded the data science and artificial intelligence firm BusinessOptics which creates sophisticated solutions primarily in the financial services industry.

Brad is interested in how digitisation and artificial intelligence can drive automation in the insurance industry thereby enabling new models of insurance and enhanced customer experiences.

Lee has been with FNB for over 15 years arriving straight out of University. In his 15 years, he has enjoyed a diverse range of roles and exposure across our complex business. He worked in Credit Card, Forex, Business, Core Lending Products (CLP) and Life Insurance, his roles and responsibilities spanning across Analytics, Credit Sales, Client Value Management (CVM), Product Development, Pricing, IT and Operations. He has been a part of building new businesses, including the first dedicated CVM team in the Bank, Discovery Card, Retail Forex, Core Lending Products, Life and Short-term Insurance. Lee is currently the CEO of Life but also runs Insurance cluster which is currently building our short-term insurance business, supporting our international insurance strategy and running support for the various insurance businesses in the group.

He is known in the group as a visionary thinker, an excellent intrepreneur*, a great innovator and someone who can inspire and lead people to great heights.

Lee has a BSc. Degree in Financial Mathematics from the University of Johannesburg and is a qualified actuary.

Development Manager Africa since 2014 for ClaimVantage, the leading
international provider of automated Life, Health and Absence claim management software. He is based in Johannesburg.

Prior to ClaimVantage, John worked as a management consultant, helping high potential Irish software start-ups to enter and do business in South Africa, mainly in the Financial Services sector.

Craig Olivier, Director of Genasys Technologies SA and UK, has been at the heart of Genasys for more than 20 years and was part of the original team that started the development of SKi®. After finishing his studies in software design, he joined Genasys, where he quickly climbed the ranks to become the youngest director in the company. He started his career at Genasys as a developer and subsequently headed up the development team before moving into a more client-facing role. Craig currently heads up the sales and new business development teams. He has over 20 years’ extensive experience in South African, UK and African short-term insurance compliance requirements.

Zach is the Co-Founder and Chief Investment Officer of Startupbootcamp Africa – the leading multi-corporate backed venture accelerator program in Africa. He is the founder of Cactus Advisors – a specialist corporate finance advisory firm and micro VC fund specializing in high growth, high impact African tech ventures. Zach is a prominent Angel investor in several of Africa’s leading tech startups including Flutterwave, HouseME, Recomed and several others. He was featured on the cover of Fast Company South Africa in May 2018.

Zach was formerly the head of Africa Investments for U-Start – the largest network of private Multi-Family offices in Europe.

Prior to moving to South Africa, he was an investment banker on Wall Street covering mergers & acquisitions, corporate finance strategy and risk management at Lehman Brothers and Barclays Capital, New York.

Zach has a Master’s degree in Finance & Management from Stanford University and a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology.

Outside of his professional life, Zach is an acoustic guitarist/vocalist with cover albums ‘Give A Little’ (2010) and ‘Humans with Hearts’ (2018) on iTunes and Spotify. He is an avid lover of theater and the performing arts, likes hiking and a good game of squash. He enjoys creative writing and is currently busy finishing a work of non-fiction.
